Boxwork:

• The plywood box option in all four product lines (KL/EN/CU/FC) is standard NAF maple plywood, both are made with soy-based glue.
  • Purebond from Columbia Forest Products
  • SoyStrong from States Industries.
• Melamine NAF/NAUF box option would follow special request process.

Door Substrates:

• NAF/NAUF “Green-Core” MDF core options are available selections in the catalog for:
  • Manhattan, Redondo, Springfield
• Other NAF/NAUF core (MDF, PGM, 3/8-inch plywood insert panels, laminate doors with PB core) are approved through the special request process.

Coatings:

• Water-based stains: Fawn, Prairie, Praline, Toffee, Cape Cod, Breezewood-on-maple-only.
  • If they would like water-based Breezewood on a species other than maple, please submit a special request.
  • Other colors are available as water-based spray stains by using the CPS process.
• Low-Emitting/NAF clear topcoat is approved using the special request process:
  • Valspar’s Z-Form is available in Flat or Standard sheen.
  • Approved for Stain and Signature Stain. Not available for Signature Paint.
• Low-Emitting/NAF opaque paint: NOT AVAILABLE right not but is under development.

Drawer Boxes:

• Solid wood dovetail drawer boxes
  • Sherwin Williams’ F3 Lacquer is approved by special request.
• Plywood drawer boxes
  • Also made from the NAF plywood used in boxwork.   

FOREST STEWARDSHIP COUNCIL (FSC®) CERTIFICATION

FSC® Certified Maple and Cherry

• All maple and cherry in KL and EN is standard as FSC® certified
  • CCW is chain of custody certified (Certificate RA-COC-006651) to sell FSC® certified cabinetry and other cabinet parts.
• All wood components (lumber, sheet stock, dowels, edge banding, veneer, aspen drawers) in all maple and cherry cabinetry in KL and EN carries a claim of FSC Certified or FSC Controlled.
  • This allows us to sell FSC Mix Credit cabinetry that is 100% certified.

USGBC GREEN BUILDING STANDARDS (LEED v4)

If specified, certain products offered by Crystal can contribute toward earning points in some LEED credit areas.  

• Materials and Resources MR Prerequisite: Certified Tropical Wood
  • Cannot use tropical wood.
• Materials and Resources MR Credit: Environmentally Preferable Products
  • Option 2. 90% by weight or volume must meet one of the following criteria:
    1. At least 25% reclaimed. (Available by using special wood specie process to order “reclaimed wood, barn wood, etc.”.)
    2. At least 25% postconsumer of 50% pre-consumer recycled content.
    3. FSC® certified. (Mix Credit certified cabinetry available in maple and cherry at 100% by volume.)
  • NOTE: Cabinetry combined with two other components can contribute to 1 point. (Equivalent to cabinetry contributing 1/3 of 1 point.)
• Environmental Quality EQ Credit: Low-Emitting Products
  • At least 90% of each component must meet CARB (which all products sold by Crystal do).

Boxwork:

• Plywood is Purebond basswood NAF plywood (see previous NAF section).
• All other composite wood products are CARB Phase 2 and TSCA Title VI compliant for formaldehyde emissions.
